The following information is as of Friday, 2/28/2020.These stats have changed since last Friday.

Coronavirus (named COVID-19 by the World Health Organization)

 

Global Perspective

  • 82,555 confirmed cases
  • 78,497 on mainland China;
  • 2,810 deaths
  • Total death rate 3.4%

 

United States Perspective

  • 60 confirmed cases
  • 0 deaths*
  • A single confirmed without known infectious source

 

Definition of COVID-19

Coronaviruses (CoV) are a large family of viruses that cause illness ranging from the common cold to more severe diseases such as Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS-CoV)

 

Signs of COVID-19

Common signs of infection include respiratory symptoms, fever, cough, shortness of breath and breathing difficulties. In more severe cases, infection can cause pneumonia, severe acute respiratory syndrome, kidney failure and even death. 

 

Prevention of COVID-19

Standard recommendations to prevent infection spread include regular hand washing, covering mouth and nose when coughing and sneezing, thoroughly cooking meat and eggs. Avoid close contact with anyone showing symptoms of respiratory illness such as coughing and sneezing
