As you know May 6th - May 12th is National Nurses Week and today is also Teacher Appreciation Day! We would like to thank our faculty and staff for the hard work and dedication that they put into BOTH roles. We would also like to take a moment to specially thank one of our faculty members for her hard work.
Sharon Elkins, RN, MSN, CNE, Faculty Instructor at CCON
Mrs. Elkins completed requirements for certification in January as a Certified Nurse Educator, (CNE), through National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA).
The administration, faculty, staff, and students are very proud of this accomplishment – a daunting certification program.
Certification in any field is a mark of professionalism. For academic nurse educators, it establishes nursing education as a specialty area of practice and creates a means for faculty to demonstrate their expertise in this role. It communicates to students, peers, and the academic and health care communities that the highest standards of excellence are being met. By becoming credentialed as a Certified Nurse Educator (CNE), you serve as a leader and a role model.
Mrs. Elkins is also certified as a Maternal Newborn Nurse - RNC–MNN. She currently is instructor in NUR400 and NUR401; she previously taught pharmacology NUR100, and was clinical instructor for NUR101.
Wish Mrs. Elkins congratulations on this significant achievement and share the administration and faculty’s excitement. Please also take the time to thank your instructors, clinical adjuncts, and other nurses in your life for all of their support and care.
